Sonia has been an exercise enthusiast all her life and was a dancer up until her college years. She found Pilates briefly in the early 2000’s; however, after being on bed rest for a difficult pregnancy, she lost so much strength in her core, and she ended up with several disk herniation's, which limited her activities drastically. Following rehab and pain management procedures, she was able to start exercising again, but she still wasn’t becoming as strong as she needed to be. Sonia always kept Pilates in the back of her mind but was skeptical it could really help. When the Club Pilates Towne Lake studio opened in July 2017, she decided to take a chance and became a member. After just a few classes, she couldn’t believe how much better her whole body felt. She loved going about her day feeling more balanced, flexible, and stronger. She didn’t hurt anymore and felt more in tune with her body than every before! Pilates has had such a positive influence on everything she does, and because she knew how much it changed her life, she wanted to help others learn how Pilates could change their lives. A native Houston, Sonia spent years growing up in Borneo, Japan, and The Netherlands. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 1995 with a B.A. in English and History and worked in the healthcare documentation field for many years with over 12 of them as a Performance Coach in quality control. Sonia has been married for 23 years and has a 20-year-old son and 15-year-old triplets!! She loves spending time with her family, traveling, binge watching TV, reading, and snuggling with her kitties and pup.
My love for Pilates began a long time ago. I remember going to my first mat class and thinking this is going to be so easy and boring, boy was I WRONG!!! I was immediately hooked and started going 3 times a week and the results came pretty quickly, my body shape changed and I felt stronger. I later did private lessons on the reformer and Cadillac and I knew I would do this type of exercise the rest of my life. My background is in accounting, however about 10 years ago I went back to school and received my license as a Certified Nutritionist, I went on to counsel and help many clients. I had 2 of my 4 children later in life, so it took a toll on me and I didn't practice Pilates for many years. I discovered Club Pilates and my spirit and love for Pilates was renewed. I completed my Club Pilates instructor certification and began teaching classes in 2017. My husband said it best when I told him about me becoming an instructor "Pilates is in your soul" and he's right my passion will and always has been Pilates!!! I'm so happy to be pursuing my new career with Club Pilates. I enjoy working with all types of clients and look forward to welcoming you in my classes. I am married to my wonderful husband Sean for 12 years and have 4 children (2 still in the nest) and 2 grandchildren.
